First thankyou for downloading this program, I hope you find it of some use
and entertainment.
I first started this project after I had downloaded a program from a bbs
that would just draw a simple map of the United States and that's all. I
decided that maps needed to be of some use - I use maps to find citys and
distance from and I assume that everybody else does also.
For the next 6 months of my life all my spare time was devoted to entering
the data base to draw a map with the detail that I wanted including the
state bounderies. All points are ploted directly by latitude and longitude
therefore adding citys to the data base is a simple matter. This makes the
ploting to a hurricane also a simple matter.
Distance calculation are performed by using a great circle calculation,
then converting from nautical miles to statute miles. This works fine if
your in the ocean but roads in the United States are seldom straight and
level. Therefore a correction factor is used beginning with this version
to get the distance reading more reasonable. Remember that in mountanous
regions the distance will be slightly low and in plain states the distance
will be slightly high. It will average out quit nicely in my driving
experience, which is based on a 4,000 mile vacation this summer through
Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and Colorado.
The program has instructions included in the introduction. If you have any
questions please leave a message on the Lynx bbs - 440-7364. If you like
my work and have suggestions please leave a message of encouragement.
If you have a particular city that you would like added to the data base or
wish to update please send a disk to me at the following address along with
$15.00 registration. If you include the city's latitude and longitude
along with your request it would be helpful but it's not necessary.
HAVE A GOOD DAY!
